World Wetlands Day is coming up on 2 February and marks the adoption of the International Convention on Wetlands on 2 February 1971 in the Iranian city of Ramsar.
The theme for World Wetlands Day 2015 is “Wetlands for our future; Te tirohanga a mua mo nga maria”.
Although not formally a Ramsar site,Te Waihora is a wetland of international significance and particularly important for wildlife.
As part of this year’s event, the Ramsar Convention Secretariat is organising a Youth Photo Contest open to 15-24 year olds with fantastic prizes.
